Acrylic Capped, High Impact Resistant ABS
We mould our protectors and exhaust guards in the UK, using Acrylic Capped, High Impact Resistant ABS plastic or AC/ABS. We use it because it's the best material for the job. It is strong, light, hard wearing and impact resistant even at the low temperatures you might find on a cold winters trial! In terms of longevity and functionality for this application AC/ABS easily out performs GRP or Carbon Fibre alternatives, and unlike these alternatives it is recyclable.
The Acrylic Cap on the ABS gives the plastic its high gloss surface finish and provides a protective layer over the top of the carbon fibre effect pattern. Trials are a dirty business and the pattern will wear off on areas of the plastic which are constantly scuffed and worn down by rubbing against your muddy boots for example. We minimise this problem on our products by designing rubbing ribs into them which wear first, protecting the rest of the part and keeping it looking good for longer.
Very High Bond (VHB) Foam Pads
We back our Swing Arm and Frame Protectors with foam pads to further protect your bike from scuffs and scratches. The foam acts as a tight fitting barrier between the plastic and your frame minimising the ingress of grit and gravel and preventing any movement of the protector from scuffing the parts we're trying to protect. It is important however to clean behind the protectors on a regular basis. Mud and grit will eventually find their way in behind the protectors, especially quickly in wet weather conditions.
